Pomme

Pomme is a collaborative project between Belgian and German art students who have been invited to the MasPommes mansion in Barbentane in the South of France. Given the fact that the property includes 760 apple trees and that the region has been known for artists such as Cézanne and Gauguin, we decided to incorporate their tradition of reflecting the relation between mankind and nature as well as the apple itself. Having a rich history in mythology and religion the apple, as a symbol, is still omnipresent in our every day culture.

The specificity of the on-site working came along with a natural dispute concerning the setting that each participant approached in their individual way. Whether they transformed or staged the apple, questioned the conditions of artistic work and actual value of indulgence, shared the affluence or captured the location as a natural environment or as a touristic attraction - the direct reflection on the site is strongly appreciable.

Pomme will be presented in Leipzig and Antwerp.
